Why I love it

Make this for an oat skeptic and they will love you forever! This recipe converted my mom to being an oat lover. If you’re looking for healthy and delicious inspiration for weekend breakfast, this recipe was made for you. If you’re looking to treat yourself in the middle of the week, this recipe was also made for you. Nothing beats the orange and chocolate flavor combo in these oats, they’re the perfect amount of rich and fresh at the same time. Orange you glad I shared this recipe?

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plant milk (I used vanilla soy milk)

  • ½ cup oats (I used quick cooking steel cut- they give the best texture)

  • ⅛ cup cacao powder

  • Juice of 1 ½ oranges (I used Cara Cara oranges)

  • 1 tbsp agave

  • 1 tsp dairy-free chocolate chips (I used Enjoy Life)

  • A pinch of salt

  • Optional toppings: 2 tbsps chocolate chips (melted) and orange slices

Replacements

You can cook the oats in water if you would prefer them to be less creamy. Additionally, you can use cocoa powder if you do not have cacao powder.

Recipe

1. Add the milk to a medium-sized pot on the stove and let it heat up but not yet reach a boil (this is the key to creamy oats).

2. Stir in the oats, cacao powder, orange juice, agave, 1 tsp chocolate chips, and salt. Cook until the oats have almost absorbed all of the milk.

3. Meanwhile, heat up the 2 tbsps of chocolate chips in the microwave at 30 second increments until melted.

4. Let the oats sit for 5 minutes to thicken and cool down.

5. Top them with chocolate sauce swirls and more orange slices. Enjoy!
